Brittany

Tissue Donor

At the age of thirty-one my daughter died; she collapsed at work, after consuming an energy drink. They brought her back and transported her to the hospital, where she was placed in an induced coma and put on a ventilator. Sadly, after thirteen days she failed all tests and was gone.

Brittany had always talked about organ and tissue donation and told me if anything would ever happen to her to please let them use her organs and tissue. She was always a very caring and giving person, always helping others if she could. There was no question when asked about organ, eye, and tissue donation, she wanted that and I too wanted that, especially after our conversation.

Losing Brittany was devastating, my heart stopped the minute I was told. At that time, I was so numb and, in a fog, but as time went on, it made my heart feel better knowing she was living on in others and helping others through her gift of donation.

Brittany was able to give others a second chance at life. Her liver saved a young girl who was at the end of her life and is now doing well. We stay connected with each other. She was also able to help others with her kidneys, saving two lives. I know by her being a tissue donor she has helped so many, too many to count.

My daughter left five young children behind. It has been nine years now; they know that their mom helped others and they hope that one day they will be an organ and tissue donor as well.

My world stopped that day when my beautiful daughter Brittany died. But knowing someone’s world didn’t stop because of Brittany, makes my heart not hurt so bad knowing she still lives on in others even though she is not with me physically. She is always in my heart.
