Tissue Recipient
At 17, I had a medial patellar femoral ligament reconstruction, MPFL, surgery. I had recurrent patellar subluxation, so my kneecap was popping in and out of place. It was very painful and made soccer and basketball difficult. After deciding to have surgery, I was very nervous about what the outcome may be. I received an allograft to reconstruct my new ligament. I had always dreamed of playing soccer at the collegiate level and after my surgery, I could do that. I played 4 years of college soccer and still play in an adult league to this day. My patella has remained in place and I have minimal pain or residual issues with my knee. Being a tissue recipient gave me a chance to achieve the success I had always dreamed of.
