Mary
Tissue Recipient
“I needed the tissue graft because I fell while doing my weekly walk/job to help me stay in good physical condition. I am 68 years old caregiver to my 7-year-old and 9-year-old granddaughters. When I fell, I was unaware of the damage I had done to my tendon and continued to exercise until the pain was too great. When I finally sought medical help, it was diagnosed as an anterior tendon rupture. It was so severe that I was informed I would probably need a graft.
Not knowing that such a thing was available, it made me realize the importance of the donor program. I have designated, for many years, on my driver’s license that I would like to be an organ and tissue donor. However, I still do not know the extent of doing just that. My many thanks to God, and to the current donors who had the forethought to donate before I had the determination to learn how to help others as well.”
